Talvikangas only became a district of its own in 2004, when it and Hönttämäki were split off from Korvensuora. It sits along Kuusamontie about nine kilometres north-east of the centre, has close to 4,000 residents, and is mostly this millennium's detached and semi-detached housing with a few small blocks. Local services amount to two schools, four daycare centres and two grocery shops; the Korvensuora school was merged into the Talvikangas one at the end of 2016. Building continues eastwards towards Hiukkavaara.
There are three gyms. One is open around the clock and two offer a free first session. Not one of them runs instructed classes, and not one has a sauna — nowhere in the district. For either of those the nearest alternatives are about three kilometres out, towards Kynsilehto or Hiukkavaara.
Monthly prices run from 36.90 to 54.90, median 41.90. With three gyms a median is not really a statistic, just one of the three figures, so read all three price lists separately instead of trusting the middle one.
Transport decides more here than price does. Buses reach the centre along Kuusamontie and via Parkkisenkankaantie, and the drive downtown takes about twenty minutes even at rush hour. With only three options on the doorstep, a gym on your commute is often the more sensible choice than a gym at home — particularly if instructed classes are part of your training, since the district has none.
