Bookings are made through a separate booking system and one booking lasts 60 minutes. The price is from 10 € per booking, and three other people can join at the same price — the gym is capped at four people at a time. After booking and paying you receive an SMS code that opens the gym door for the duration of your slot. Payment is made online at the time of booking via Paytrail. The gym is open every day of the year 06:00–22:00 and there is no staff on site — for problems you reach staff by phone, SMS, WhatsApp or email. There is a Bluetooth speaker you can pair your own phone to for your own training music. There is NO shower; there is a toilet and a water point. Chalk (magnesium) is banned, as is needlessly dropping weights, and equipment must be returned to its place at the end of your slot. The person booking must be over 18; children may come with a parent and are the parent's responsibility. Pets are not allowed. The premises are under recorded video surveillance. Savela is one of Jyväskylä's smallest districts: a little over two thousand people in two halves, Savela proper to the west and Palokunnanmäki to the east, where the red-brick blocks date from the 1990s. A fire station stood here from 1962 until 2011 and was demolished to make room for housing. The Kortepohja student village begins immediately to the north, and the local S-market serves through the night.
What decides things for training is the neighbourhood, not the district. The Hippos sports complex is 900 metres away, the water sports centre 1.3 kilometres, the city centre about 1.6. That is why seventeen gyms land on this page when Savela itself has one. Hippos is also a construction site: a rebuild worth over 210 million euros will be completed in stages during 2027 and 2028, and traffic arrangements around the water centre shift as it proceeds. Check your route and parking before setting out, particularly if you drive.
Prices are cheap by local standards — 32.90 to 62.90 euros a month, median 39.90. That is a good five euros below Halssila and Keljo, which is simply a measure of how close the centre is. Two of the options are municipal facilities.
Six gyms let you in at any hour, four offer a free trial visit, four have a sauna and eight run group classes. Four are women-only, more than in the neighbouring districts — worth knowing if that is what decides it for you. Use the trial visits now, while the building work is shifting routes: a gym that looks close on the map can be behind a diversion.
