Kurala has one gym. The next is a little over two kilometres away, and the whole catchment counted here comes to 16. That is thin, and worth knowing before you start looking: the choice is really made across Nummi, Itäharju, Varissuo and Kupittaa, not on your own street.
The district is an old village that belonged to Kaarina before Turku annexed it, just under four kilometres east of the centre — a quarter of an hour by bike. Its original farmsteads survive as Kuralan Kylämäki, an open-air museum restored to its 1950s appearance on ground settled since the Iron Age. Vanha Hämeentie runs through along the line of the medieval ox road from Turku cathedral to Hämeenlinna.
Buses along Kuralankatu run into the market square, so both the centre and the eastern suburbs work without a car. Of the 16 gyms, five are open around the clock, five run classes, four have a sauna, three are women-only and two belong to the city.
Exactly one offers a free trial, so do not plan on shopping around that way; ask about a day pass instead. Prices sit at the low end for the region, 30 to 107 euros a month, median 41.99. The reason is structural: this catchment holds more budget chains and municipal halls than full-service centres. For a pool, a wide class timetable or coaching, the trip runs toward Kupittaa and the price rises with it.
