In 2005 Metsokangas was forest and farmland; the first houses went up that year along Iinatintie. It now has over 6,300 residents and a school of roughly 1,200 pupils across four units. It is Oulu's twenty-eighth district, part of the Kaakkuri area, its southern edge against the Kempele boundary. That youth shows in the gym supply: there are four.
One of them is in Metsokangas. The rest are a good kilometre north in Kaakkuri and about two kilometres south, across the border in Kempele. If you drive the motorway anyway, that border is not a real obstacle. The Kaakkuri retail cluster and a large supermarket sit in the same direction, so the gym trip can double as the shopping trip. The city centre is seven kilometres off and not a realistic daily option.
Only one of the four is open around the clock, so a six-in-the-morning session narrows to a single address. One runs instructed classes and one has a sauna. All four, though, offer a free first session, unusual when supply is this small: you can work through the whole district in a fortnight and choose on experience rather than on a website.
There is no budget end: the cheapest card is 36.90 a month, the dearest 54.90, median 43.90. The older northern districts of Oulu start at 22 euros; Metsokangas does not. If price decides it, the search moves outside the district, and driving time belongs in the sum — the cheaper card is not within walking distance.
