Construction of Varissuo began in autumn 1975 and it became the most multilingual neighbourhood in Finland: by 2019 more than half of its roughly 9,000 residents spoke a first language other than Finnish or Swedish, and close to sixty languages are counted here. Services are gathered around the Itäkeskus shopping centre — library, health station, ice rink, schools — and the painted electrical cabinets around it started Turku's street art programme in 2004.
The gym supply is small and close at hand. Eleven fall within three and a half kilometres, the two nearest a couple of hundred metres from the shopping centre. Three are publicly run, including the ice rink gym and a community centre just over the boundary in Kaarina, so paying per visit rather than signing up is a serious option.
Read the rest of the numbers closely. The median of 49.90 euros a month is the highest of these districts even though this is not a central location; the cheapest is 32.90 and the dearest 107. Two gyms open around the clock, exactly one offers a free trial, and no AI-guided equipment exists inside the radius.
Two trunk bus lines leave from Itäkeskus and reach the centre in under half an hour, one of them via Skanssi. Doing that five times a week costs an hour a day, so for most people the sensible move is something within walking distance — and to check its opening hours first, because that is where the local choice runs thinnest.
