Battle ropes are thick, heavy ropes anchored at the midpoint to a sturdy fixing and held at both ends. The ropes are whipped, slammed and circled forcefully, creating continuous wave motions. The training is intense and raises the heart rate quickly, combining strength, endurance and core control. The ropes especially work the shoulders, arms and core, but maintaining a stable stance also engages the legs. Intensity is regulated by the speed of the waves and the weight of the ropes.
