An ab wheel is a small wheel with handles on both sides. The trainee holds the handles and rolls the wheel forward along the floor on the knees or toes until the body is nearly straight, then pulls back in a controlled manner. The movement is an effective core exercise that requires strong tension of the abdominal muscles throughout the range to prevent the lower back from sagging. The ab wheel develops the strength of the deep and surface abdominal muscles and core stability, and its difficulty can be adjusted by the rolling distance and starting position.
