Keljonkeskus has been southern Jyväskylä's retail district since the 1990s: two hypermarkets, a discounter and a long row of car dealerships along Highway 9. The residential half is a different world — older, quiet detached and terraced housing. Lake Päijänne starts less than two kilometres away, and on the shore stand the Keljonlahti power plant and the oil harbour, served by its own railway spur. Keljo is an elastic term: its sub-areas run from Etelä-Keljo out to Sääksvuori and Keljonkangas, three to ten kilometres from the centre depending which one you mean.
Fourteen gyms fall inside the radius of this page and one of them is in Keljo. The rest are in Kangaslampi, at Hippos and in the centre, 2.3 to 2.9 kilometres out. That is a short drive but not a walk, so look at parking and bus connections before buying a card. Around here choosing a gym is largely a transport decision.
One number stands out. Only two of the fourteen offer a free trial session. Ask directly for a day pass or a single entry instead — most places will sell you one even when no free trial is advertised.
Four gyms are open around the clock, five have a sauna and six run group classes. Prices go from 34.90 to 62.90 euros a month with a median of 45, and three of the options are municipal sports facilities. One gym nearby uses HUR smart equipment where the resistance is set from your card, which is useful mid-rehabilitation or if you are starting from nothing.
